Former Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba has strongly dismissed suggestions that the governing body operates under external control, insisting that such claims are unfounded and unsupported by evidence.

“Whoever claims that CAF is controlled should provide proof, it’s simply not true,” he stated, pushing back against persistent criticisms surrounding the organization’s autonomy and governance.

Mosengo-Omba, who has been a central figure in CAF’s recent administrative reforms, also revealed that he had at one point considered stepping down from his role.

However, he chose to remain in office in order to see through the latest edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which he described as a milestone tournament.

According to him, the competition not only delivered on the pitch but also set new benchmarks off it, particularly in financial performance.

The tournament reportedly shattered several records, with a notable surge in revenue marking a significant step forward for African football’s commercial growth.

Following his exit, Samson Adamu has been appointed as the Acting General Secretary.

His remarks come at a time when CAF continues to face scrutiny from various quarters, but Mosengo-Omba’s comments underline the organization’s push to assert its independence while highlighting progress made in recent years.

The statement adds to ongoing conversations about transparency, governance, and the future direction of football administration on the African continent.
