In a move aimed at enhancing security and curbing violence in sports stadiums, the government has approved a decree creating local committees dedicated to combating violence.
The proposal was presented by the Minister of National Education, Primary Education, and Sports, Shakib Benmoussa.
Mustafa Baytas, the Minister Delegate in charge of relations with Parliament and the official government spokesperson, elaborated on the project during a press briefing following the weekly council meeting.
He emphasized that this initiative falls within the framework of implementing the provisions of Article 19-308 of Law No. 09.09, which complements the criminal law, assigning the government authority responsible for sports, universities, sports clubs, and the newly established local committee to combat violence in sports arenas, with specific provisions.
This involves coordinating efforts with public authorities, law enforcement, and judicial police officers, each within their respective jurisdictions, to execute court decisions prohibiting attendance at matches or sports events.
Baytas highlighted that the decree aims to ensure coordination among various stakeholders in the field of combating violence in sports arenas at the territorial level.
It specifies the composition of the local committee to combat violence in sports arenas, including regional representatives of relevant government authorities and entities involved in the anti-violence process.
The decree outlines the powers delegated to this committee.
The project, the minister added, includes provisions that detail the procedures for holding local committee meetings, conducting its activities, and making decisions.
The responsibility for documenting the local committee’s activities is entrusted to the government authority responsible for sports, which will also be assigned specific tasks.
This comprehensive approach is designed to foster collaboration and strengthen preventive measures against violence in sports arenas, aligning with the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of sports events for spectators and participants alike.
