The refurbished Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat is scheduled to reopen on September 5, ahead of Morocco’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Niger — a fixture that could see the Atlas Lions seal early qualification with a win.

According to sources close to the project, extensive work has gone into completing final preparations over recent months, ensuring the stadium is fully ready not only for this high-stakes qualifier but also for the opening ceremony of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Morocco is set to host later this year.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently toured the venue and lauded its transformation, describing it as “an innovative stadium ranked among the world’s elite.”

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Infantino praised the facility as a symbol of the Maghreb region’s progress in sports infrastructure.

“The Moulay Abdellah Stadium is a modern facility that embodies the progress of the Maghreb in sports infrastructure,” Infantino stated.

“I thank His Majesty King Mohammed VI for his continued support for football.”
