Morocco's Amine Adli confident about Atlas Lions World Cup chances

Moroccan winger Amine Adli has expressed strong confidence in the Atlas Lions’ ability to make a major impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup while admitting he is anxiously awaiting confirmation of his place in the final squad.

The Bayer Leverkusen attacker believes Morocco possess the quality, ambition, and experience needed to compete with the world’s best at the tournament, which will be staged in the United States, Canada, and Mexico this summer.

Speaking in an interview with RMC Sport, Adli highlighted the depth of talent available within the Moroccan national team and insisted the squad is capable of achieving something special on football’s biggest stage.

“With this squad and the quality of players Morocco has, we can certainly make a big impact in the competition. We aspire to achieve great things,” he said.

“The World Cup is a tournament everyone dreams of. The great players, the big stadiums, the top nations, the atmosphere.”

Morocco head into the tournament carrying high expectations following their historic run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they became the first African nation to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

That remarkable achievement elevated the Atlas Lions into one of the most respected national teams in world football, with supporters now hoping the current generation can continue writing history.

For Adli personally, the upcoming World Cup represents an opportunity for redemption after the disappointment of missing the last Africa Cup of Nations.

The winger admitted that setback motivated him to work harder and improve his performances at club level in order to remain in contention for a place in Morocco’s World Cup plans.

“I had already missed out on the Africa Cup of Nations and that hurt a bit. It pushed me to perform even better, and I managed to make it into the preliminary squad,” he explained.

Despite his optimism, Adli acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the final squad selection as competition for places remains fierce within Walid Regragui’s talented side.

“I’m eagerly waiting for the squad list and I hope to see my name on it. I know I could either end up happy or disappointed,” he added.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed another strong campaign in Europe and is viewed as one of Morocco’s exciting attacking options heading into the tournament.

With the World Cup fast approaching, anticipation continues to build across Morocco as fans await the official squad announcement and dream of another memorable global campaign from the Atlas Lions.
