The competition will follow a mini round robin format where each team faces the others once. At the end of the tournament, the top three sides will secure qualification for the continental championship, which also acts as a pathway to the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Morocco will open their campaign against Tunisia on March 24 before facing Algeria three days later. Their third match will come against Egypt at the end of March, while the final fixture will see Morocco take on hosts Libya on April 5.
In recent years Morocco’s under 17 team has drawn considerable global attention thanks to impressive performances on both the African and international stages.
During the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, the North African side reached the quarterfinals after defeating the United States national under-17 soccer team and overcoming Mali national under-17 football team in the round of sixteen before suffering a narrow defeat to Brazil national under-17 football team. The run marked Morocco’s best performance in the history of the tournament and highlighted the steady progress of the country’s youth development system.
Earlier, at the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations hosted in Algeria, Morocco advanced to the final but finished as runners-up after losing to Senegal national under-17 football team. Despite the defeat, the team’s performances were widely praised for their organisation and quality, reinforcing Morocco’s reputation as one of Africa’s most promising youth football programs.
The team eventually returned stronger two years later when Morocco hosted the 2025 edition of the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations. On that occasion the hosts went all the way to lift the title for the first time in their history.
In the final they overcame Mali on penalties following a goalless draw, a triumph that represented a landmark moment for Moroccan youth football and secured their place at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, where they once again impressed by reaching the quarterfinals.
