Former FC Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has publicly declared his support for club president Joan Laporta as he seeks re-election, urging supporters and members to back him in the upcoming vote.

The endorsement came shortly before the presidential election scheduled for Sunday, 15 March, in which Laporta faces challenger Víctor Font.

Eto’o, who enjoyed a successful spell with Barcelona during the 2000s, shared his support through a message posted on social media.

The former Cameroon international used the statement to highlight the role Laporta played during one of the most successful periods in the club’s modern history.

“I am a living witness to the extraordinary history you helped write at this legendary club. Your passion, your work, and your love for these colors have marked an entire generation.

I am proud of you and honored to have had the chance to work alongside you at the greatest club in the world.”

“To all fans of our great team: the time has come to support the man who embodies this history and these values. Vote for Joan Laporta.

My President for life,” wrote Samuel Eto’o, current president of the Cameroonian Football Federation.

Eto’o’s backing reflects the close relationship the two men have built over the years. The striker joined Barcelona in 2004 during Laporta’s presidency and quickly became one of the key figures in the team.

During that era, Barcelona experienced a highly successful period, with Eto’o playing a major role in the club’s achievements. Among the highlights were two victories in the UEFA Champions League, won in 2006 and again in 2009.

Those successes helped cement both Eto’o’s legacy at the club and Laporta’s reputation among supporters.

The Cameroonian forward remains one of the most celebrated players from that period, remembered for his goals and influence during Barcelona’s rise to the top of European football.

His endorsement arrives at a crucial moment as the club prepares to choose its leadership for the coming years.

With voting approaching, Eto’o has now publicly urged the Barcelona community to place its confidence once again in Laporta.
