Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi has opted to stay at Spanish outfit, Girona amid interest from German club RB Leipzig in the current transfer window.
Leipzig had contacted the enterprising midfielder in recent hours to inquire about his situation and the possibility of a transfer before the window shuts.
The German outfit presented Ounahi with their sporting vision and his potential role within Leipzig’s project in the Bundesliga, taking advantage of his current situation.
But the Moroccan international has turned down Leipzig advances, as he is not considering a change of scenery mid-season.
Ounahi, who is continuing his recovery from a calf injury sustained while on international duty with Morocco during the Africa Cup of Nations, prioritizes a swift return to the pitch with Girona and finishing the season at the Montilivi Stadium, while focusing on achieving peak fitness before the World Cup finals.
Ounahi believes the current phase requires stability and continuity, especially after an injury-plagued start to the season.
Meanwhile, the midfielder would evaluate any future offers, being Leipzig or other interested clubs at the end of the current football campaign.
For its part, Girona, recognizes the significant technical value that Ounahi represents within the team’s sporting project. Before his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, he was one of the most impressive players and a crucial element in midfield, thanks to his ability to orchestrate play, break lines, and make a difference in the attacking third.
Girona’s coaching staff is counting on Ounahi’s return in full fitness during the crucial stage of the season to regain his technical influence and contribute to achieving the team’s objectives. Meanwhile, the player’s future remains open to all possibilities.
