Morocco secures commitment of AS Roma midfielder Nael El Aynaoui amid France’s interest
The Moroccan Football Federation has successfully secured the international allegiance of rising talent Nael El Aynaoui, fending off competing interest from France.
The 19-year-old, who recently completed a €23 million transfer from Lens to Roma, has opted to represent the Atlas Lions on the international stage.
According to sources close to the player, El Aynaoui has fully embraced Morocco’s call, responding positively to head coach Walid Regragui.
“Nael responded to the wishes of his father, former tennis champion Younes El Aynaoui, to play for Morocco while refusing repeated pressure from France to represent Les Bleus,” the sources explained.
El Aynaoui is expected to make his debut for Morocco in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Niger.
Meanwhile, a parallel tug-of-war continues between Morocco and France over 17-year-old Lille sensation Ayoub Bouadi, who is among this year’s nominees for the Best Young Player in Europe award.
