Morocco ready to host memorable 2025 AFCON tournament – Fouzi Lekjaa
President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, has reaffirmed Morocco’s readiness to host what he described as a historic edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) later this year.
In an interview with beIN Sports, Lekjaa stressed that the country’s preparations are the product of decades of investment and planning, rather than last-minute efforts.
He credited the vision of King Mohammed VI, whose reforms over the past two decades have focused on developing world-class sports infrastructure and nurturing football talent nationwide.
“Thanks to His Majesty’s long-term vision, Morocco is positioned to deliver a reference event that will set the standard for future AFCON tournaments,” Lekjaa said.
The 2025 AFCON, scheduled for December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026, will be staged across six Moroccan cities, each equipped with either newly built or fully renovated stadiums ranked among the most modern on the continent.
Beyond the venues, the country has also strengthened its logistics, security, and hospitality systems to meet international standards.
According to Lekjaa, Morocco intends for this edition of the tournament to transcend sport, presenting it as a celebration of African unity and solidarity.
“This is more than just football,” he emphasised. “It is an opportunity to showcase brotherhood and the spirit of shared celebration across Africa.”
The North African nation aims to combine cutting-edge infrastructure with its renowned hospitality to set new benchmarks for continental competitions.
For Lekjaa, the 2025 AFCON will not only highlight Morocco’s growing status as a global sporting destination but also honour the traditions that make the tournament one of Africa’s most treasured events.
