Morocco: Rail partnership secured to support fans Ahead of 2025 AFCON
CAF has struck a transport partnership with Morocco’s national railway operator, ONCF, to streamline fan travel during the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The agreement, signed in Rabat by CAF President Patrice Motsepe and ONCF Director General Mohamed Rabie Khlie, confirms ONCF as an official tournament sponsor.
Moroccan Football Federation president Fouzi Lekjaa and CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba were also present at the ceremony.
Under the deal, ONCF will introduce special train services throughout the competition period, increasing capacity during busy travel times and offering tailored travel packages for supporters moving between the host cities.
The operator says its strategy aims to provide fast, reliable, and comfortable journeys for the millions expected to attend, while supporting goals around sustainability and accessibility.
According to ONCF, the initiative reflects Morocco’s broader effort to use major sporting events to drive regional unity and create opportunities for young people across Africa.
CAF has welcomed the arrangement as part of its commitment to staging a seamless and high-quality tournament.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, will bring together 24 teams competing in nine stadiums across six cities.
It marks Morocco’s second time hosting the continental showpiece, following its first turn in 1988.
Although the country had been selected to stage the 2015 edition, it later withdrew because of the Ebola outbreak affecting parts of West Africa.
With preparations entering their final phase, both CAF and Moroccan authorities say the transport partnership will help ensure a well-coordinated and welcoming experience for fans from across the continent.
