Karim El Berkaoui is expected to make a decision on his future in the coming weeks, with a return to Moroccan football reportedly on the table after his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al Raed expired.
The 28-year-old striker has not renewed terms with Al Raed, having lost his starting role during the latter half of the 2024/25 season.
His situation has alerted several clubs, both within and outside Morocco, as the summer transfer window officially opens on July 1.
AS FAR Rabat are among the first to make a concrete move.
The Moroccan giants have reportedly submitted a bid worth $500,000, a figure described as “surprising” by some close to the negotiations.
The Rabat-based club is keen to bring the forward back to Botola Pro, a league where El Berkaoui first made his name with Hassania Agadir.
In the Gulf, Damac FC have emerged as strong contenders.
The Saudi side is believed to be leading the race financially and are eager to keep El Berkaoui in the Saudi Pro League.
The project being presented — built on squad stability and regional ambition — is said to appeal to the player, who has enjoyed a largely positive spell in the kingdom despite recent setbacks.
Elsewhere, Egyptian giants Zamalek SC have initiated discussions but talks have hit a pause.
The Cairo club reportedly pulled back from negotiations due to wage demands considered too high under their current financial policy.
However, sources suggest that a deal is not off the table entirely, should both parties adjust their expectations.
Back in Morocco, Raja Club Athletic have also expressed interest.
The Casablanca outfit are looking to bolster their attacking options and view El Berkaoui as a good fit.
However, the financial package offered by Raja falls short of the offers made by other suitors, which has temporarily stalled progress despite the striker’s openness to returning to Botola Pro.
In the 2024/25 campaign, El Berkaoui featured in 25 matches across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and delivering three assists.
His influence waned in the second half of the season, yet his overall record remains strong.
Currently valued at €1 million by Transfermarkt, he remains a sought-after figure thanks to his pace, finishing ability, and tactical versatility in attack.
As multiple clubs circle, El Berkaoui stands at a crossroads — whether to stay in the Gulf, head north to Egypt, or return home to reignite his career in familiar territory.
