Morocco intensifies efforts to secure Real Madrid teen Tiago Pitarch
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) is ramping up its behind-the-scenes campaign in Madrid to secure the services of a promising young talent for the Atlas Lions.
Their current focus is on 17-year-old Real Madrid youth prospect Tiago Pitarch, who qualifies to represent Morocco through his father.
The teenager has recently attracted significant attention from Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso, who promoted him to first-team training.
Sources indicate that Pitarch was initially invited to join Morocco’s youth setup, but the call-up was delayed by a day, and Real Madrid refused to release him in line with FIFA regulations.
The Moroccan federation is now working to persuade the player and his family to commit to the national program, citing the example of Real Madrid star Brahim Diaz, who has received a warm reception from Moroccan fans since opting to represent the Atlas Lions.
Morocco has previously succeeded in securing several dual-nationality talents despite competition from Spain, including Munir El Haddadi, Chadi Riad, Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, Adam Aznou, Achraf Hakimi, Youssef El Khadim, and Brahim Diaz, although Lamine Yamal ultimately chose to represent Spain.
With Pitarch now in their sights, Morocco hopes to continue its tradition of attracting top young talent with strong ties to the country.
