Morocco is set to continue its quest for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with two decisive qualifiers against Niger and Tanzania later this month.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) confirmed that both matches will take place at the Complexe d’Honneur in Oujda.

Key fixtures for the Atlas Lions

The first encounter is scheduled for March 21, when Morocco will take on Niger, followed by a clash against Tanzania on March 25.

Both matches will kick off at 9:30 p.m. local time.

These fixtures form part of the fifth and sixth rounds of Group E in the African qualifiers, marking a crucial phase for the Atlas Lions as they aim to solidify their position at the top of the standings.

Morocco’s strong start to qualifying

The North African side has been in fine form during the qualification campaign, living up to expectations as one of the continent’s strongest teams.

Following their impressive run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Morocco remains one of the favorites to secure a spot at the next tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Currently leading Group E, the Atlas Lions will look to extend their dominance and maintain their unbeaten record in the qualifiers.

Their squad, boasting a mix of seasoned internationals and emerging talents, is expected to be at full strength for these upcoming fixtures.

The road ahead

With only a few matches left in the qualification process, Morocco will need to remain focused to avoid any setbacks.

Victory in these two games would put them in a commanding position as they edge closer to securing a place in the expanded 48-team World Cup.

Niger and Tanzania, meanwhile, will be looking to cause an upset, knowing that a positive result could boost their own qualification hopes.

The pressure will be on Morocco to perform, especially with the backing of their home fans in Oujda.

As anticipation builds, all eyes will be on the squad selection and tactical approach adopted by head coach Walid Regragui.

The Atlas Lions will be determined to take full advantage of their home fixtures and continue their journey toward another historic World Cup appearance.
