The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has issued a statement to dispel rumors surrounding the future of Rachid Benmahmoud, the assistant coach of the Atlas Lions, in response to recent comments made by head coach Walid Regragui.
In an interview with Arryadia channel, Regragui hinted at impending changes in both player composition and the technical staff following the national team’s elimination at the round of 16 stage in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The remarks stirred speculation, particularly regarding the position of Rachid Benmahmoud, who has been serving as the assistant coach since August 2022.
There were even suggestions of his potential move to Wydad Casablanca, possibly succeeding Faouzi Benzarti in the event of the latter’s departure.
Contrary to the swirling rumors, the FRMF asserts that Rachid Benmahmoud’s position within the national team remains secure.
A source within the FRMF, as reported by Le360, emphasized Benmahmoud’s pivotal role in the management team of the Atlas Lions, stating, “Rachid Benmahmoud plays a key role in the Atlas Lions management team. Walid Regragui is betting a lot on him.”
The clarification aims to put an end to speculations about Benmahmoud’s future, affirming the trust and significance that Regragui places in his deputy.
The FRMF’s statement serves to assure fans and stakeholders that, despite the post-AFCON reflections and potential adjustments, Benmahmoud’s standing as the assistant coach of the Atlas Lions remains unwavering.
