Morocco Fall to Japan in U17 World Cup Opener in Doha

Morocco’s U17 national team began their World Cup campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Japan at Aspire Zone in Doha on Monday.

The Atlas Lions struggled to find rhythm in their Group B opener, conceding twice in the second half to a disciplined and energetic Japanese side.

Japan’s Taiga Seguchi broke the deadlock in the 57th minute after a well-executed team move that left the Moroccan defense exposed.

Despite Morocco’s efforts to regroup and push forward, the young Lions failed to create enough clear chances to trouble the Japanese goalkeeper.

Their attacking play lacked precision, and their defensive line appeared vulnerable to Japan’s quick transitions.

As the match neared its conclusion, Japan sealed their victory through Daigo Hirashima, who struck deep into stoppage time in the 90th+8 minute, leaving Morocco with no chance of recovery.

Morocco’s players fought hard but could not convert their possession into goals. The team’s inability to capitalize on key moments and Japan’s clinical finishing proved decisive.

The result marked a disappointing start for the North Africans, who entered the tournament hoping to make an early statement.

Coach Said Chiba urged his players to remain focused ahead of the next fixtures, emphasizing the importance of learning from their opening defeat.

The Atlas Lions will now turn their attention to Thursday’s clash against Portugal, a crucial encounter that could define their qualification hopes.

Morocco will conclude their group-stage campaign on November 9 against New Caledonia.

With two matches remaining, they must deliver a strong response to keep their knockout-stage ambitions alive.

Japan’s win places them in a strong position in Group B, while Morocco face the challenge of bouncing back quickly in what promises to be a competitive group.
