Morocco international Nayef Aguerd has returned to West Ham United after a successful loan spell at Real Sociedad.
The 29-year-old confirmed his departure with a farewell message on Instagram on Tuesday, thanking fans for their “respect, affection, and love” and promising to keep supporting the club that “left a deep mark” on him.
Real Sociedad also confirmed his departure in a brief statement.
The promising centre back joined La Real last August and quickly became a starter in Imanol Alguacil’s backline, making 36 appearances and logging 2,926 minutes across all competitions.
Though discussions over a second loan took place in May, West Ham has decided to pursue a permanent transfer, setting the price at around €20 million.
Aguerd played a crucial role as Sociedad secured a top-six LaLiga finish.
He won more than four aerial duels per game and had a success rate above 60%. On the ball, he made close to 60 passes each match, with a solid accuracy of 87.3% in La Liga last season.
