Morocco confirm friendly matches against Mozambique and Uganda ahead of AFCON 2025
Morocco will face Mozambique and Uganda in two international friendlies next month as part of their final preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) confirmed on Thursday that both matches will take place at the Grand Stade de Tanger.
The Atlas Lions will first meet Mozambique on November 14th before taking on Uganda on November 18th, four days later.
These encounters will help the 2022 World Cup semi-finalists fine-tune their strategy and evaluate squad depth ahead of the continental showpiece, which Morocco will host from December 21st, 2025, to January 18th, 2026.
Mozambique will provide an interesting challenge for Walid Regragui’s men. The Mambas, under coach Chiquinho Conde, have made significant progress in recent years.
They recently secured qualification for their sixth AFCON and finished third in their World Cup qualifying group behind Algeria and Uganda.
Their disciplined defensive shape and quick counter-attacks have made them one of the most improved sides on the continent.
Uganda, coached by Belgian tactician Paul Put, will also offer a stern test. The Cranes have demonstrated strong organization and tactical intelligence under Put’s leadership.
Although they lost both World Cup qualifying matches against Algeria, their energetic transitions and teamwork troubled the North Africans and nearly secured them a runners-up finish in their group.
Morocco had initially aimed to schedule a high-profile friendly against Argentina, but negotiations failed to reach an agreement.
Despite that setback, the FRMF considers Mozambique and Uganda ideal opponents for testing the team’s readiness ahead of AFCON 2025.
For Regragui, these matches will allow him to assess form, chemistry, and tactical cohesion among his players before the continental tournament begins.
With Morocco hosting the competition, expectations remain sky-high, and the Atlas Lions will seek to build momentum in front of their home supporters in Tangier.
