Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has called on his players to approach the upcoming friendly against Tunisia with utmost seriousness. The two North African rivals are set to meet on Friday, June 6, at Fez Stadium.
Regragui emphasized the importance of securing a win, drawing on a detailed review of Tunisia’s recent performances, including their friendly against Burkina Faso.
According to reports, the Atlas Lions’ technical team revealed to Kooora that comments from Tunisia’s players and coaching staff—who openly declared their intention to defeat Morocco—have fueled Regragui’s and his squad’s determination, intensifying the rivalry ahead of the friendly derby.
The match also holds personal significance for Regragui, who remembers Morocco’s heartbreak against Tunisia in the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations final as a player.
Tunisia also played a key role in Morocco’s elimination from the 2006 World Cup qualifiers, another painful chapter from Regragui’s playing days under coach Zaki.
Now, as head coach, Regragui is eager to rewrite history by leading the Moroccan “Lions” to victory over the Tunisian “Carthage Eagles.”
Morocco will again take on Benin on Monday at the same venue.
