Morocco coach Tarik Sektioui turns down Al Ahly and Zamalek interest
Moroccan coach Tarik Sektioui has rejected offers from two of Africa’s biggest clubs, Zamalek SC and Al Ahly SC, choosing instead to continue his work with Morocco’s national team setup.
Sektioui, who currently leads the Moroccan national reserve team, attracted strong interest from both Egyptian giants in recent weeks. Reports indicate that negotiations, particularly with Zamalek, had reached an advanced stage, but no agreement was finalised as the coach opted to honour his existing commitments.
According to Moroccan newspaper Al-Sabah, Sektioui declined the offers despite their appeal, with sources attributing his decision to his contractual obligations with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and his dedication to the ongoing national project.
The coach remains focused on his role within Morocco’s football structure and has shown no intention of pursuing opportunities abroad at this time, despite receiving multiple offers from both clubs and national teams in the Arab world. His decision follows a period of notable success, having guided the reserve team to victory in the African Nations Championship and the Arab Cup, while also leading the Olympic side to a historic bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Games.
Sektioui had also been linked with the senior national team role following the departure of Walid Regragui, before the federation ultimately appointed Mohamed Wahbi.
Attention now turns to his future within the national setup, with discussions ongoing about whether he will continue with the local team or take on additional responsibility with the Olympic squad as preparations begin for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
As part of those preparations, the Olympic team is scheduled to face Saudi Arabia and Ivory Coast in friendly matches on March 26 and 31 at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmoura, as Morocco continues to build toward the next cycle of international competitions.
