Injured and ruled out of Morocco’s upcoming friendlies, Brahim Diaz has nevertheless rejoined the national team camp to show his support — a gesture that has drawn admiration from fans and teammates alike.
The Real Madrid midfielder, who will miss the Atlas Lions’ fixtures against Tunisia on June 7 and Benin on June 11 due to a medical issue, made the uncommon decision to travel to the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora.
His reason was simple: to remain close to the squad.
“As I always say: this is our home, our family. Even though I can’t play because of my injury, I’m happy to be here with my brothers,” Diaz told the Royal Moroccan Football Federation’s media outlet.
While it’s common for players to take time off when unavailable for selection — especially for non-competitive fixtures — the 24-year-old has demonstrated his deepening commitment to the Moroccan national team.
Since switching allegiance from Spain, Diaz has earned 10 caps and scored eight goals for Morocco, quickly becoming a fan favourite.
His continued presence, even while sidelined, sends a strong message about his loyalty and connection to the team — values that resonate with both supporters and staff.
Coming off a demanding campaign with Real Madrid, where he featured in 31 matches, Diaz acknowledged the toll the season has taken on him physically.
“It was a great season, but also very demanding with many matches. Despite everything, I’m very happy to be here, surrounded by my teammates,” he said.
Though unable to participate on the pitch, Diaz remains actively engaged.
“I train in the gym to stay physically ready. Being here, surrounded by my teammates, is motivating. I feel this collective energy,” he added.
This continued involvement during downtime reflects the midfielder’s sense of responsibility to the national side.
For many Moroccan fans, it is a welcome departure from the more transactional relationships sometimes seen between players and national teams.
In closing, Diaz delivered a heartfelt message to Morocco’s passionate supporters: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your constant love and support. I return it with all my heart. I will give my all for you on the pitch, because I love you as much as you love me.”
While Morocco prepares to face Tunisia and Benin without one of their most influential players, Brahim Diaz’s off-field presence remains a powerful reminder of his growing stature within the squad.
