Morocco national football team have officially started preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with an intensive training camp at the Mohammed VI Football Complex as the coaching staff moves closer to finalising the squad for the tournament.

Several players arrived early at the training base on Monday, including Youssef Belamri, Mohamed Chibi, Oussama Tergaline, Othmane Maama, Sofiane Boufal, Yassine Jassim, Ayoub El Kaabi, Ismael Saibari and Yasser Zabiri.

Final Evaluation Before Squad Announcement

The official testing and evaluation period will run from May 22 through May 26 as the Atlas Lions technical team assesses the preliminary squad ahead of the final World Cup selection.

The short but intensive camp follows Mohamed Ouahbi’s announcement of a provisional 28-man roster last week.

The sessions are expected to serve as the final audition for players hoping to secure a place in Morocco’s definitive World Cup squad, which is scheduled to be officially unveiled on May 26.

Ouahbi Implementing New Tactical Identity

The training block also represents a major moment for Ouahbi, who was appointed head coach of the senior national team earlier this year.

The Moroccan coach is reportedly using the camp to strengthen his tactical ideas, focusing on an aggressive high pressing system and a more fluid attacking style ahead of the tournament.

Final Countdown to the World Cup

The five-day camp in Maamoura effectively marks the beginning of Morocco’s final countdown to the World Cup.

Once the final squad is confirmed, the selected players will have just under three weeks to build chemistry and fine-tune preparations before the Atlas Lions begin their World Cup campaign.
