Morocco will host the 49th edition of the Dakar Rally in January 2027 after organisers confirmed the event will take place across Morocco and Portugal.

The rally, one of the world’s biggest events for cars and motorcycles, will begin on 9 January in the Portuguese city of Loule-Faro.

Competitors will then move to Morocco, where they will tackle 11 stages before the rally concludes in Marrakech on 23 January.

The route marks Morocco’s return to the centre of an event followed by endurance-racing fans around the world.

The Dakar Rally is expected to return to Saudi Arabia in 2028, when it will coincide with the competition’s 50th edition.
