Morocco and Getafe defender Abdelkabir Abqar sidelined with injury
Getafe CF coach José Bordalás has expressed deep concern after Moroccan international Abdelkabir Abqar suffered a muscle injury during the team’s recent 1-0 loss to Sevilla FC in La Liga.
The setback goes beyond the defeat on the scoreboard, with Bordalás highlighting the human cost of the match as multiple players’ sustained injuries that will affect the squad in the coming weeks. Abqar was forced off the field in the 67th minute after feeling pain that made it impossible for him to continue, prompting a substitution and a defensive reshuffle.
“In addition to the defeat, we suffered other losses: both Djene and Abqar will miss the upcoming matches,” Bordalás told the media.
“It’s crucial to pay attention to the smallest details. I’ve been repeating this all week: the slightest mistake can be costly, and unfortunately, this forced us to play with ten men.”
Abqar had just returned to the pitch after recovering from a previous hamstring injury, having participated in the last three matches before this new setback. Initial reports suggest that the Moroccan defender could miss multiple upcoming fixtures, exacerbating Getafe’s defensive challenges at a crucial point in the season.
Despite his recent injury struggles, Abqar has delivered solid performances this campaign, registering an assist and earning consistently positive evaluations for his displays. His absence represents a significant blow for Bordalás as Getafe seek to stabilize their backline and navigate a demanding stretch of La Liga fixtures.
Getafe now faces the task of reorganizing the squad and maintaining defensive resilience while monitoring Abqar’s recovery closely, with hopes that he can return to action sooner rather than later.
