Morocco: Achraf Hakimi poised to claim 2025 Marc-Vivien Foé Award

Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi is reportedly set to be named the recipient of the 2025 Marc-Vivien Foé Award, recognising the best African player in France’s Ligue 1.

The official announcement is expected on 12 May.

The Moroccan international has enjoyed a standout season, contributing four goals and eight assists in 24 league appearances.

His dynamic performances have been instrumental in PSG’s successful campaign, which includes clinching the Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de France.

Hakimi’s influence extends beyond domestic competitions.

He played a pivotal role in Morocco’s qualification for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations and was part of the squad that secured a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

His consistent excellence has solidified his reputation as one of the premier right-backs in world football.

The Marc-Vivien Foé Award, established in 2009 by Radio France Internationale and France 24, honours the memory of the late Cameroonian midfielder who tragically passed away during a match in 2003.

The accolade is determined by a panel of nearly 100 journalists and former players specialising in French and African football.

Should Hakimi secure the award, he would join the ranks of previous Moroccan winners Marouane Chamakh (2009), Younès Belhanda (2012), and Sofiane Boufal (2016), further highlighting Morocco’s growing prominence in international football.

At 26, Hakimi continues to build an impressive résumé, having already secured multiple domestic titles with PSG and individual accolades such as the 2024 Golden Lion, awarded by Morocco’s Al-Mountakhab newspaper to the best African player of the year.

As the football world awaits the official confirmation, Hakimi’s anticipated recognition with the Marc-Vivien Foé Award underscores his exceptional contributions to both club and country.
