The anticipation for the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations intensifies as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announces the pivotal preliminary round draw scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 20, in Cairo, Egypt, at 2 p.m. local time (1 p.m. Moroccan time).
The draw will determine the fate of the eight lowest-ranked teams according to FIFA, who are set to compete in the preliminary round.
The teams include Somalia, Djibouti, Sao Tome and Principe, Chad, Mauritius, South Sudan, Liberia, and Eswatini.
The draw procedure is meticulously organized, with the eight teams divided into two pots based on their FIFA rankings.
The first pot comprises the four lowest-ranked teams (Somalia, Djibouti, Sao Tome, and Chad), while the second pot features the four highest-ranked teams (Mauritius, South Sudan, Liberia, and Eswatini).
The meticulous draw will see the first ball drawn from Pot 1 paired with the first ball drawn from Pot 2.
Importantly, the teams from Pot 1 will have the privilege of hosting the first leg, setting the stage for compelling matchups and strategic plays.
The matches are scheduled to unfold during the FIFA window from March 18 to 26, 2024.
The four triumphant teams emerging from the preliminary round will join the 44 exempt teams, already secured in the group stage of the qualifiers, marking a crucial step toward the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
As football enthusiasts eagerly await the draw results, the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations promises to be a spectacle of talent, competition, and strategic gameplay, capturing the hearts of fans across the continent and beyond.
