Two Moroccan internationals have been recognized among the best African players in the Spanish La Liga during the first half of the season.
Shady Riyadh of Real Betis and Abdelkabir Abqar of Deportivo Alavés have secured places among the top five African players who showcased exceptional performances with their respective clubs.
According to media reports, Riyadh and Abqar feature in a list comprising a group of standout African talents.
The list includes Ghanaian Inaki Williams, the striker from Athletic Bilbao, Saul Coco from Las Palmas in Guinea, and Ivorian Jonathan Bamba from Celta Vigo.
The noteworthy performances of Riyadh and Abqar have earned them calls to represent the Moroccan national team in the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, which commenced on Saturday.
Riyadh made a significant move to Real Betis during the last summer transfer window from Barcelona on a one-season loan with a purchase option.
On the other hand, Abqar has been playing for Deportivo Alavés since 2020.
Their remarkable contributions not only brought recognition at the club level but also led to their inclusion in the final squad for the Moroccan national team competing in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The tournament, being held in Ivory Coast, promises to showcase the talents of these Moroccan players on the continental stage.
As they continue to excel in La Liga, all eyes are now on Riyadh and Abqar to carry their impressive form into the Africa Cup of Nations and contribute significantly to Morocco’s campaign in the tournament.
