Moroccan outfit Ittihad Tanger set to appoint Algerian tactician Abdelhak Benchikha as new head coach
Moroccan outfit Ittihad Tanger are close to appointing Algerian tactician Abdelhak Benchikha as their new head coach.
The appointment of the experienced tactician is imminent, following advanced-stage negotiations between the “Knights of the Strait” management and the Algerian gaffer.
Benchikha is currently in Tangier to finalize the last details of his contract, with only minor points remaining before the deal is signed. His arrival marks the third managerial change for Ittihad Tanger this season, highlighting the club’s ongoing search for stability at the helm.
Meanwhile, outgoing Spanish coach Pepe Mel, will remain with the club in a technical capacity, assuming the role of technical director, overseeing the youth and academy sectors. Mel will continue to be under contract, ensuring continuity within the club’s broader technical structure.
French coach Serge Romano, who led a training session on Tuesday evening and previously served as assistant to former coach Hilal Al-Tair, will also stay on the technical staff, taking on the role of assistant to Benchikha. Romano’s continued presence is expected to provide stability and continuity for the first team as the new head coach assumes control.
Benchikha, a seasoned manager with experience in North African football, faces the challenge of steadying a club that has already undergone multiple coaching changes this season. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as the Algerian coach takes charge, aiming to steer Ittihad Tanger toward improved results in the remainder of the campaign.
