Moroccan national team coach Walid Regragui offered inconsistent and illogical explanations for the team’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
During an interview on the “Al Riyadiya” channel, Regragui attempted to justify Morocco’s shortcomings by blaming the weather conditions in San Pedro, Ivory Coast.
He claimed that the city experienced high temperatures and humidity levels, despite the fact that the Moroccan team had arrived early in Ivory Coast to acclimatize.
While Regragui asserted that Morocco delivered a solid performance against South Africa and was the better team, he contradicted himself by acknowledging defensive weaknesses and a lack of attacking efficiency in the same match.
Regragui’s rhetoric mirrored his typical discourse in press conferences before and after Moroccan national team matches, failing to provide clear and logical justifications for the team’s failure in the Africa Cup of Nations, despite the Moroccan Royal Football Federation providing optimal conditions for success.
The coach’s media appearance has further fueled anger among Moroccan fans, as his inconsistent and recycled explanations for the Atlas Lions’ Africa Cup exit highlighted his responsibility for the team’s performance.
Regragui’s favoritism towards certain players and tactical limitations have left the Moroccan national team vulnerable, making it an easy target for opponents.
