Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi has denied reports claiming he was involved in a life-threatening car accident in Greece.
The Panathinaikos midfielder addressed the speculation after false rumors spread across social media, causing widespread concern among fans.
The unverified claims suggested that Ounahi had been seriously injured in a road accident and was in critical condition.
However, the 24-year-old swiftly took to social media to put an end to the speculation, assuring his supporters that the situation was not as dire as initially reported.
In a statement on his Instagram account, Ounahi reassured fans about his well-being. “I received several calls and messages from my family, friends, and followers after the information posted by certain media and on social networks, announcing that I had been the victim of a road accident,” he wrote.
The midfielder clarified that while an incident had occurred, it was not severe. “It was a minor accident, and I am doing well. Contrary to the rumors circulating, I am not between life and death. Stop spreading false allegations,” he added.
Ounahi’s response came after fans and media outlets expressed concern over his condition, with many seeking confirmation of the reports.
The misleading news had caused alarm within Moroccan football circles, given the player’s prominence for both club and country.
The former Angers midfielder, who joined Panathinaikos from Marseille, has been a key figure for Morocco’s national team, playing a crucial role in their historic 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign, where they became the first African nation to reach the semi-finals.
Despite the online speculation, Panathinaikos has not issued an official statement regarding the incident, further reinforcing Ounahi’s claim that the accident was minor and not cause for major concern.
With his clarification, the Moroccan star has put an end to the unfounded reports, allowing him to focus on his recovery and preparations for Panathinaikos’ upcoming fixtures.
