France-born midfielder of Moroccan descent, Amine Harit, has completed a loan move to Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir from French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille.

The 28-year-old midfielder fell out of favour at Marseille and was not registered by Roberto De Zerbi for the club’s UEFA Champions League campaign. Despite joining Marseille permanently last November in a deal worth around €5 million, Harit has yet to feature this season.

Harit first arrived at Marseille on loan from Schalke 04 in 2021 after earning recognition as Bundesliga Rookie of the Year in the 2017/18 season. His obligation-to-buy clause was triggered after making 15 appearances last season, but game time has since eluded him.

The attacking midfielder, who began his youth career with PSG, Red Star, and Nantes, made 30 first-team appearances for FC Nantes before moving to Schalke in 2017.

On the international stage, Harit represented France at the youth level and was part of the U-19 squad that won the UEFA European Championship in 2016 before switching allegiance to Morocco.

He will now hope to impress at his new club to earn a place in the squad of the Atlas Lions for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
