Zamalek will be without Moroccan left-back Mahmoud Bentayj when they face El-Gouna on Tuesday in the eighth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

The defender is suspended after picking up his third yellow card of the season, the latest coming in Thursday’s match against Ismaily. His earlier bookings were against El Mokawloon El Arab and Farco.

The Cairo giants were dealt another blow after right-back Omar Gaber was forced off injured during the Ismaily encounter.

The 32-year-old limped off in the 44th minute following a collision with an opponent and was replaced by defender Salah El-Din Mosaddek.

Medical staff later confirmed Gaber had sustained a sprain in his right ankle and will undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury.

Adding to Zamalek’s concerns, defender Hossam Abdel-Majid also picked up a leg injury late in the game.

Sources say there is growing anxiety within the club over Gaber’s availability for the highly anticipated Cairo derby against Al-Ahly on September 29.

Before that, the Whites must navigate a tricky fixture against El-Gouna, where they will already be missing Bentayj.
