Moroccan League could be suspended due to scheduling issues

The Moroccan Professional Football League is facing mounting pressure as uncertainty continues to surround the scheduling of postponed Week 12 fixtures, raising concerns over a possible temporary suspension of the competition.

With the second half of the season fast approaching, the situation has grown increasingly complicated.

While the league has confirmed dates for outstanding matches from Weeks 10 and 11, the continued delay in announcing the Week 12 schedule has left clubs in a state of uncertainty.

Raja Club Athletic have taken a strong stance on the matter, insisting that all postponed first-leg fixtures must be completed before the commencement of the return phase.

The club has cited Article 20, Paragraph 4 of the competition regulations, which mandates that all outstanding matches be played prior to the start of the second half to ensure fairness and competitive balance.

This position places the league in a difficult situation. Should clubs align with Raja’s stance and refuse to honour upcoming fixtures, particularly those scheduled for Week 16, the championship could face a suspension lasting up to two weeks.

The timing of the impasse also coincides with preparations for major continental competitions, including the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals.

The first-leg matches are set for April 10 and 11, with the return legs scheduled for April 17 and 18, a timeline that could inadvertently align with a potential domestic pause.

At the heart of the matter is whether Raja will maintain its firm position or agree to a compromise that allows the league to proceed as planned. The decision is expected to have significant implications for the remainder of the campaign, particularly as the title race intensifies and the battle to avoid relegation gathers momentum.

For now, the absence of a clear directive from the league has left clubs in limbo, awaiting a resolution that could ultimately determine whether the season continues uninterrupted or is temporarily brought to a halt.
