Amine Adli has admitted he is weighing up a potential departure from Bayer Leverkusen, with just six months remaining until the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Moroccan international, who joined Leverkusen in 2021 from Toulouse in a €7.5 million deal, is entering a period of reflection after four years at the Bundesliga club.
Following a season disrupted by a fractured fibula and major changes at the club, the 25-year-old says a transfer this summer is a real possibility.
“After four years and so many emotions, I think it’s normal to ask questions about your future,” Adli told L’Équipe on Friday. “Should I leave or not, discover something else? It’s legitimate, especially since we’re starting a new cycle.”
Bayer Leverkusen, who secured the Bundesliga title in 2024, are undergoing a significant transition.
The departure of head coach Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid marked a turning point for Adli, who credited the Spanish manager with playing a key role in his development.
“It’s a very difficult start because he changed everything here. He helped me improve in a lot of ways,” said Adli.
The exits of several core players, including Florian Wirtz, Jonathan Tah, and Jeremie Frimpong, have further highlighted the club’s shift in direction.
Now under the guidance of Erik ten Hag, Leverkusen is entering a new era, but Adli’s future remains uncertain—particularly given his desire for consistent playing time in a preferred role.
“What matters to me will be my use on the pitch. I want to play in my position again, whether on the right wing or as a second striker. To have freedom, rhythm, responsibilities,” he explained, noting that he was often deployed on the left this past season, a role he is less comfortable in.
In addition to club ambitions, Adli has his eyes firmly set on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted in his native Morocco.
With 15 international caps and one goal to his name, the forward is determined to be at his best for the continental tournament.
“That’s why I want to get back to feeling good, because there’s this AFCON. It’s essential to participate. We have to do something big for our country, it’s a priority objective,” he stated.
Still under contract with Leverkusen until June 2026 and currently valued at €18 million, Adli is expected to attract interest in the transfer market as he considers his next move.
