Wydad Casablanca has confirmed its 29-man squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, with six recent signings included as the Moroccan giants begin their campaign on American soil.
The squad announcement follows the team’s arrival in the United States, where they held their first training session on Wednesday ahead of the tournament’s kick-off on Sunday, running from 15 June to 13 July.
Head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem has placed his confidence in a blend of established names and new recruits as Wydad prepares to compete on the world stage.
Among the latest arrivals are experienced winger Nordin Amrabat, promising talent Hamza Hannouri, and Ivorian midfielder Stéphane Aziz Ki, who joined the club earlier this month.
Dutch centre-back Bart Meijers, formerly with Bosnian outfit Borac Banja Luka, has also made the final cut.
The final two additions came just before the team’s departure to North America.
Syrian international Omar Al Somah, 36, signed as a free agent after terminating his contract with Al-Orobah, who suffered relegation from Saudi Arabia’s top flight.
The veteran forward had hinted at his next move in the Emirati press, and his experience is expected to add depth to Wydad’s attacking options.
Brazilian midfielder Guilherme Ferreira, recruited from Portuguese second-tier side Felgueiras, completes the list of newcomers.
He joins compatriots Pedrinho and Arthur to become the third Brazilian in the squad.
However, of the four signings initially planned by Benhachem for the closing day of the pre-tournament window, Ferreira is the only one whose move materialised.

Deals involving a Bolivian international, a standout performer from the previous CAF Champions League campaign, and a domestic player — widely believed to be Gessime Yassine — failed to be finalised, leaving the club with a partially fulfilled transfer agenda.
Wydad Casablanca is set to face a formidable challenge in the group stage.
They begin their campaign on 18 June against European champions Manchester City, followed by matches against Italian giants Juventus and UAE’s Al Ain, led by Moroccan international Soufiane Rahimi, in Group G.
With a combination of experience, youth, and continental ambition, Wydad will aim to leave their mark on the global stage, even as questions linger over missed opportunities in the transfer market.
