Souffian El Karouani has rejected speculation linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia, insisting his immediate focus remains on FC Utrecht and that he is weighing strong opportunities in Europe as his contract approaches its end.
The Moroccan left-back, who will become a free agent in June, has been at the centre of transfer rumours throughout the winter window.
Reports had first suggested he was close to joining Marseille, claims later described as unfounded. More recently, speculation emerged of an agreement with Saudi club Al Qadsiah for a summer transfer. El Karouani has now publicly denied that suggestion.
“Currently, I am a player for FC Utrecht until the end of the season. I will make a decision about my future in the next two weeks,” the 25-year-old told Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, making clear that no deal has been finalised.
January proved particularly busy in terms of interest surrounding the defender, but no proposal ultimately aligned with his expectations or timing.
While declining to discuss specific offers, El Karouani stressed that sporting considerations remain central to his decision-making process.
“I have very good options in Europe,” he added, indicating that a move outside the continent is not his current priority.
On the pitch, El Karouani continues to underline why clubs have been monitoring his situation. Known for his attacking contribution from the left flank, he remains a key creative outlet for Utrecht.
During Wednesday’s 3-1 Eredivisie win over NEC Nijmegen, he registered his 16th assist of the season across all competitions, reinforcing his influence within the squad.
With the campaign entering its closing stages, clarity over his future is expected soon. Free to negotiate his next move, El Karouani faces a decision that could shape the next phase of his career.
For now, his attention remains on finishing the season strongly while evaluating the sporting projects available to him, particularly within Europe.
