Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane struggles to maintain early season form at Rangers

Morocco’s Hamza Igamane hails Ayoub El Kaabi as an inspiration

Hamza Igamane is enduring a dip in form at Rangers after an impressive start to his debut season in Scotland.

The Moroccan under-23 international, who has netted 13 goals and provided several assists across 30 appearances in the Scottish Premiership and Europa League, has failed to score in his last nine matches.

Igamane, signed from AS FAR last summer, quickly became a fan favourite at Ibrox with his prolific goal-scoring and relentless work ethic.

However, his recent goal drought has raised concerns among supporters and analysts alike.

Former Rangers player Derek Ferguson offered his perspective on Igamane’s struggles, saying: “He’s a young player, he’s still learning.

His energy and impact are still visible, but he needs to find his efficiency again.”

The striker’s dip in form has coincided with fading speculation over a possible transfer to English clubs such as Everton and West Ham, with interest cooling as the January window closed without a move.

Meanwhile, fellow Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri has been thriving at Fenerbahçe, where he has scored 26 goals in all competitions this season.

The 26-year-old’s prolific run has seen him equal an 18-year record by netting in six consecutive home games in the Turkish Süper Lig.

The contrasting fortunes of Igamane and En-Nesyri could pose a selection dilemma for Morocco coach Walid Regragui ahead of the national team’s next call-up.

With Rangers set to face Fenerbahçe in the Europa League on Thursday, the spotlight will be on both Moroccan forwards as they aim to influence their respective sides.
