Amid mounting public demands to refer the referee scandal case, which has recently made media headlines, involving two matches from the previous season of the Moroccan league, to the Moroccan judiciary, an official source from the National Professional Football League clarified that this remains subject to the results of investigations by the Ethics Committee of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
The same source, in an interview with “Hesport,” stated that the possibility of resorting to the judiciary in the mentioned case may occur after the Ethics Committee concludes its investigation and issues a verdict.
It is worth mentioning that the mentioned case has been under investigation by the Ethics Committee of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation for the past three months, focusing on two matches from the previous season’s first division, with the common denominator being that one of the teams involved hails from Casablanca.
Sources from “Hesport” indicated that the Ethics Committee has been hearing from the involved parties in the case for the past three months before expanding the investigation and the circle of “interrogated” individuals in the past few days.
Among those implicated in the case are three suspended referees and a prominent international referee who participated in the recent Africa Cup of Nations finals, who was only questioned, in addition to other individuals connected to the case, including intermediaries and members of refereeing crews.
The Ethics Committee has obtained audio recordings and conversations of referees presumed to be intermediaries between bribers and the referees of the two mentioned matches, attempting to persuade them to show leniency and favor one team over the other.
