Nasser Larguet bids farewell to Saudi Arabia following four-year tenure
Moroccan coach Nasser Larguet has announced his departure as Technical Director of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, bringing to an end a four-year spell during which he played a role in the development of football across the country.
The former Moroccan technical director confirmed his decision through a message posted on social media, expressing both pride and gratitude as he prepares to leave the position.
“After four years, I have chosen to leave my position as national technical director of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. I leave with immense pride and great gratitude,” he wrote.
Larguet had held the role since May 2022 and was involved in various projects linked to the growth of Saudi football. During his farewell message, he reflected on the opportunity to contribute to the country’s sporting ambitions as Saudi Arabia continues preparations to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
The Moroccan official said he was honoured to have participated in the development of football under the framework of Vision 2030, the national programme aimed at transforming several sectors, including sport.
He also took time to acknowledge key figures who supported him throughout his tenure. Larguet thanked Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, and Saudi Arabian Football Federation president Yasser Al Misehal for the confidence they placed in him during his time in office.
Looking back on his period in charge, Larguet highlighted several achievements that were accomplished under his leadership. Among them was the qualification of three Saudi teams for World Cups during the same season.
He also pointed to the capture of 11 titles since 2022 and the return of the Saudi Arabia Under-17 national team to the FIFA U-17 World Cup after an absence of 35 years.
“Together, through grassroots football, coach training and the development of men’s and women’s national teams, we have built solid foundations,” he stressed.
Throughout his tenure, Larguet was involved in initiatives focused on youth development, coaching education and the strengthening of national team structures across different age categories.
As he closes this chapter of his career, the Moroccan coach expressed confidence in the future direction of Saudi football and the progress already achieved.
“The foundations are solid and the best is yet to come. Thank you to this great country for this unforgettable adventure,” he concluded.
His departure marks the end of a significant period in Saudi football’s ongoing development programme as the federation continues its preparations for future international challenges and the hosting of the 2034 World Cup.
