Morgan Rogers deal leads a summer transfer market dominated by major Premier League moves

Morgan Rogers’ move from Aston Villa to Chelsea is currently the most expensive transfer of the summer, according to a ranking published by Mundo Deportivo.

The England midfielder’s switch has become the biggest transfer in Chelsea’s history, and he is expected to be an important part of Xabi Alonso’s plans at Stamford Bridge.

The summer window has already produced a series of high-value deals, although the top 10 could change significantly before the major European transfer windows close. Less than a month remains, and several clubs have begun making further moves.

Potential transfers involving Yan Diomande, Julian Alvarez, Vinicius Junior and Rodri could dramatically reshape the standings if they are completed. Those deals would involve substantial fees and could have a major effect on the current order.

The deals currently occupying the top 10 are:

Elliot Anderson has joined Manchester City to strengthen the midfield of Enzo Maresca’s side. His impressive performances for Nottingham Forest last season earned him a move to one of English football’s biggest clubs for a sizeable fee.

Tottenham have also invested heavily after narrowly avoiding relegation last season. Sandro Tonali’s arrival from Newcastle is the most expensive transfer in the club’s history and makes him one of the costliest Italian footballers ever.

Another player has moved to the London club to work under Roberto De Zerbi, this time arriving from West Ham. Tottenham are determined not to repeat the difficulties of last season and have spent heavily to build a squad capable of competing again with England’s leading teams.

One of the other major moves involves a Portugal international leaving Paris Saint-Germain for Italy. He joined the French club in 2024 but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter because of the intense competition for places in its attack. He is now expected to become a leading figure at Milan.

Barcelona’s first signing of the summer arrived from Newcastle for 70m euros, plus a further 10m euros in add-ons. The deal was requested by manager Hans-Dieter Flick and members of the club’s sporting department, who believe the English forward possesses qualities that suit the German coach’s style of play.

Liverpool moved to reinforce their defence after Konate’s departure to Real Madrid. The club paid 70m euros to sign a young French defender from Stade Rennais. He made 21 appearances in all competitions last season and missed 13 matches because of a shoulder injury.

Crysencio Summerville is the first player on the list to move to Saudi Arabia. The Netherlands international was relegated from the Premier League with West Ham last season, but his departure generated a significant fee for the club.

Summerville attracted considerable interest after scoring twice at the World Cup. He ultimately chose Al Hilal, where he will play alongside Karim Benzema, Darwin Nunez and other high-profile names.

Chelsea also feature in the ranking through another major signing. Xabi Alonso’s team continue to strengthen with substantial spending, adding French centre-back Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace on a contract running until June 2032.

The final deal listed involves a young Swiss midfielder joining Aston Villa from Freiburg for 60m euros. He was one of the standout players at the World Cup, where his performances for Switzerland produced three goals and two assists, attracting interest from leading European clubs before Villa completed the move.

The ten players involved in these transfers will face considerable pressure to perform because of the money spent on them. Whether the deals become major successes will only become clear once the competitive season begins.
