Montpellier HSC have entered into discussions with Olympique de Marseille regarding a potential move for Cameroonian international goalkeeper Simon Ngapandouetnbu.
According to reports from Foot Mercato, Montpellier have initiated talks with both Marseille and the player as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping department ahead of the new season.
The 21-year-old has also attracted interest from other clubs, including Red Star and Le Mans.
Ngapandouetnbu, who hails from Foumban, joined Marseille in 2019 and has steadily developed within the club’s ranks.
Despite limited first-team opportunities, his stock has continued to rise thanks to his performances with the reserve side and his involvement in Cameroon’s national team setup.
Currently valued at €500,000 by Transfermarkt, Ngapandouetnbu remains under contract at Marseille until June 2027, but the southern French club may be willing to negotiate his departure given his limited role in the senior squad.
Montpellier’s interest signals a proactive move by the Ligue 1 side to secure long-term depth in goal.
With a blend of youth and international experience, Ngapandouetnbu is seen as a promising option who could push for a more prominent role should a transfer materialise.
No agreement has yet been reached, but talks are understood to be progressing, with all parties reportedly open to exploring a deal that benefits both the player’s career ambitions and the sporting plans of the clubs involved.
Having already drawn attention from sides in the French second tier, the pursuit by a top-flight club like Montpellier could present Ngapandouetnbu with a valuable opportunity for more consistent playing time and career progression.
The coming days are likely to be decisive as negotiations continue and Marseille evaluate their squad depth and options in goal.
