Monaco table two-year offer for French-Guinean midfielder Paul Pogba

AS Monaco have made a formal offer to sign French midfielder Paul Pogba on a two-year deal, following the expiration of his doping suspension.

The 32-year-old is a free agent and has resumed training after his 18-month ban was officially lifted.

Pogba, who has Guinean heritage, was initially handed a four-year ban in February 2024 after testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone in August 2023.

However, a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) resulted in the ban being halved, making him eligible to return to professional football earlier this year.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Monaco are leading the race to secure Pogba’s signature and are pushing to finalise a deal that would bring him back to Ligue 1.

Discussions between the two parties are expected to continue through the weekend, with Monaco eager to integrate the 2018 World Cup winner into their midfield ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Pogba has not featured in competitive action since his suspension and is seeking a fresh start following an injury-plagued second stint at Juventus.

His previous spell in France came with Monaco’s rivals, Paris Saint-Germain, during his youth career, before moving to Manchester United.

Monaco, who finished third in Ligue 1 last season and secured Champions League qualification, are also targeting Barcelona winger Ansu Fati.

The Spanish international is deemed surplus to requirements at the Catalan club and could join Pogba as part of a new-look project under manager Adi Hütter.
