Monaco and Nottingham Forest interested in Belgian-Moroccan striker Loïs Openda
Belgium international of Morocco descent Loïs Openda has emerged as a transfer target for AS Monaco and Nottingham Forest ahead of the summer window.
The 26-year-old forward spent last season on loan at Juventus, but his temporary switch to Serie A has not been made permanent. The Italian club’s option to buy has yet to be triggered, leaving Openda likely to return to Leipzig this summer as uncertainty builds around his long-term future.
Despite a difficult spell in Turin, interest in the Belgian international remains strong across Europe. According to reports, both Monaco and Nottingham Forest are closely monitoring his situation as they weigh up potential moves for the striker.
Openda’s loan stint in Italy proved underwhelming, as he managed just two goals in 37 appearances in all competitions. However, his overall track record continues to make him an attractive option in the transfer market.
Since joining RB Leipzig from RC Lens in 2023 for €40 million, Openda has scored 41 goals in 93 appearances for the German side, underlining his consistent ability to deliver in front of goal at top level. His breakthrough season at Lens was particularly impressive, as he netted 21 goals in 42 games during a campaign in which the French club narrowly missed out on the Ligue 1 title, finishing just one point behind Paris Saint-Germain.
Monaco view Openda as a potential reinforcement to strengthen their attacking line, especially amid uncertainty surrounding Folarin Balogun’s future, with the striker attracting interest from the Premier League. The Ligue 1 side are keen to maintain their competitiveness at the top end of French football and see Openda as a proven option in the league.
Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, are also in the race as they prepare for a busy transfer window. The Premier League club are looking to bolster their attacking depth and believe Openda’s pace, movement, and top-level experience could add a new dimension to their forward line.
With Juventus unlikely to pursue a permanent deal, and Leipzig yet to make a final decision on his future, Openda is expected to attract further attention as the summer window progresses.
For now, both Monaco and Nottingham Forest remain firmly in contention, setting up a potential transfer battle for the Belgian striker in the weeks ahead.
