Mokwena identifies striker position as priority for Pyramids FC in transfer market
Pyramids FC head coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed that strengthening the attacking department will be one of the club’s main priorities ahead of the new season following the departure of star striker Fiston Mayele.
The Egyptian giants are looking to reinforce their squad after losing Mayele, who played a significant role in the club’s impressive performances over the past few years.
Mokwena, who took charge of Pyramids FC after leaving South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns, confirmed that the club’s management and technical team are fully aligned on their transfer plans and have identified key areas that require improvement.
“Fortunately, the club is in agreement with us, and we are on the same page,” Mokwena said, according to Yallakora.
“Our transfer targets are very clear. It is true that the striker, Fiston Mayele, has left, but we have a strong team. We need to improve in certain positions, especially in the forward line with the striker position.”
The South African coach added that Pyramids are carefully assessing their options to ensure they sign players who fit the club’s style of play and ambitions both domestically and on the continental stage.
“We are discussing a fair number of strikers. We are trying to look at what suits us because it is important to know how we want to play, how we want to develop the team, while being aware of the type of players who succeed in the Egyptian League, the African Champions League, and at Pyramids,” he explained.
Mokwena also praised the club’s recruitment structure, insisting that the management team is working tirelessly to secure quality additions capable of improving the squad.
“We also have a very good recruitment manager, and the management is working around the clock to try and get us the best options to strengthen and improve the squad,” he added.
Pyramids FC will be hoping to maintain their recent progress and remain competitive in Egyptian football and the CAF Champions League, with Mokwena eager to build a squad capable of challenging on multiple fronts.
