Mokoena’s ambition: Leading Wydad to their first club world cup victory
Rulani Mokwena, head coach of Wydad Casablanca, has expressed his strong ambition to lead the Moroccan giants to their first-ever FIFA Club World Cup victory.
Speaking directly to fans and players via the club’s official page, Mokwena urged his squad to trust in their abilities and take pride in representing one of Africa’s most successful football clubs in recent years.
Mokwena stated, “I told them, ‘You should have confidence in your abilities and be proud to be players of the best African club of the past few years.'”
The Wydad coach acknowledged the formidable challenge ahead, as the team was drawn into a group with some of the world’s top clubs.
However, Mokwena remains determined to achieve the goal that has eluded the club for years: securing a historic victory in the Club World Cup.
He said, “It’s true that the draw has placed us against world leaders, but our first aim is to achieve Wydad’s ambition of winning their first Club World Cup match.
After that, we’ll look to progress to the group stage. If we don’t succeed, we will have benefited from the experience of playing against giants like Manchester City, Juventus, and Al Ain, Asian champions.”
Mokwena also shared insights into the tactical approach he is developing for the team ahead of the global competition.
“Currently, I am working on building a playing model similar to that of Manchester City,” he explained.
“If we can achieve that, we will present a Club World Cup performance that will make history and ensure that everyone enjoys watching how a Moroccan team plays against the world’s greats.”
Wydad fans are hopeful that under Mokwena’s leadership, the club can not only compete at the highest level but also make a lasting impact on the global stage.
