Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu rejoiced in his return to full fitness as he made his long-awaited debut for AS Monaco against Stade Rennes, marking a significant moment following an injury setback since his move from Southampton during the summer transfer window.
Salisu’s debut for the French giants was initially delayed due to injury, finally seizing the opportunity in week 15 against Stade Rennes. Playing the full duration of the game, the Black Stars defender notably contributed to Monaco’s 2-1 away victory.
Despite receiving a yellow card in the 62nd minute, Salisu exhibited resilience and determination throughout, earning commendation for his spirited performance, garnering a notable 7.6 rating.
Reflecting on his first competitive game since March 2023 while at Southampton, Salisu expressed his elation at his return, saying, “I’m very proud of myself, and I’m very happy from the journey.
It’s been a difficult journey, but in the end, I made my debut today, so I’m very happy.”
His successful return to the field is a positive sign for both AS Monaco and the Ghanaian national team, the Black Stars. With aspirations to regain a spot in the squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire, Salisu is focused on maintaining his fitness and form.
The defender’s impactful debut for Monaco adds an optimistic chapter to his football journey, signifying his potential influence both at the club and international levels.
As he continues to regain his rhythm, Salisu’s return to the pitch is a promising development for both his club and national team aspirations.
