Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Ghana international Mohammed Kudus may need surgery after suffering a fresh setback in his recovery from a quad injury.

The forward has been sidelined since January 4, when he picked up the problem during a Premier League match against Sunderland.

Although he had recently returned to team training and was expected to resume full fitness during the March international break, Spurs say his rehabilitation has stalled.

In a statement released on Thursday, the club disclosed that further medical review is now required, with surgery a possible outcome.

“We can confirm that Mohammed Kudus has suffered a setback in his return from injury,” the club said.

“The Ghana international forward suffered a significant quad injury during our Premier League fixture against Sunderland in January.

“He had returned to team training during the past week; however, he will now require further specialist review and, potentially, surgery.”

Kudus, who joined Spurs in a £55 million move in July, had been a key figure in the squad, starting nine consecutive matches before his initial injury. He has so far registered two goals and five assists in 26 appearances this season.

The development casts serious doubt over his availability for the closing stages of the season and raises concerns for Ghana ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars forward is now expected to miss Ghana’s upcoming pre-tournament friendlies against Mexico and Wales in May and June, as his recovery timeline remains uncertain.

Ghana, preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama. They open their campaign on June 17 against Panama before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
