Mohamed Salah believes he has never been closer to winning the Ballon d’Or, declaring the 2024–25 season as his strongest case yet for claiming football’s most prestigious individual honour.
The Liverpool winger, speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, highlighted his exceptional form and a Premier League title as key factors behind his confidence.
“This season, I have the best chance,” said Salah. “I’ve never had a year like this—performing at the top level and winning a major trophy. I would say this is my best opportunity to win the Ballon d’Or.”
The Egyptian international played a central role in Liverpool’s domestic success, scoring 28 goals and providing 18 assists in the league campaign.
His consistent output and leadership throughout the season were widely praised, with many viewing his performances as instrumental in securing the club’s latest league triumph.
Salah’s contribution extended beyond statistics. In crucial matches, he repeatedly delivered decisive moments, often serving as the creative and scoring engine in Jürgen Klopp’s high-tempo attack.
His ability to maintain peak form throughout a demanding season has bolstered his Ballon d’Or credentials, especially in a year where few other players have combined silverware with standout individual achievements to the same extent.
Despite having previously been named on the shortlist and finishing among the top candidates in past editions, Salah has yet to claim the top prize. The 2025 edition could change that narrative. With the Ballon d’Or ceremony set for 22 September in Paris, and the list of nominees to be revealed in late August, anticipation is already building.
For Salah, the recognition would be historic—not only marking a personal milestone but also a significant achievement for Egyptian and African football. If successful, he would become only the second African player in history to win the Ballon d’Or, following George Weah’s victory in 1995.
His remarks reflect both ambition and a sense of timing, with the 31-year-old seemingly at the peak of his career. “I’ve had an incredible season—and having a trophy to show for it gives me a strong case,” Salah added.
The Ballon d’Or, awarded annually by France Football, honours the best player in the world based on performances over the previous season. It considers individual and team success, impact in key matches, and overall contribution to the game.
As speculation continues around potential rivals for the award, Salah’s name is expected to feature prominently in the discussion, particularly if other leading contenders fall short of matching his statistical output and team success.
For now, Salah remains focused—but optimistic. With Liverpool back at the summit of English football and his own performances shining brighter than ever, the Egyptian star is poised for what could be the defining recognition of his already illustrious career.
