Mohamed Salah smashes Nwakaeme record with Galatasaray hat-trick

Mohamed Salah has etched his name into Trabzonspor history after surpassing a record previously held by former Super Eagles forward Anthony Nwakaeme in the club’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Galatasaray on Saturday.

The Egyptian forward produced a sensational individual performance at Papara Park, scoring a hat-trick and providing an assist to inspire Trabzonspor to one of their most convincing wins over the Turkish giants.

Salah’s remarkable outing also saw him achieve a feat that had eluded Trabzonspor players for eight years, before he went a step further to claim the record outright.

According to Opta Can, Salah became the first Trabzonspor player since Nwakaeme in September 2018 to contribute directly to three goals in a single match against Galatasaray.

The former Liverpool star reached that mark with his first-half involvement before completing his extraordinary night with another goal after the break.

That second-half strike made Salah the first Trabzonspor player to score a hat-trick against Galatasaray, surpassing the benchmark set by Nwakaeme and adding another historic milestone to his impressive start at the Turkish club.

Nwakaeme’s Trabzonspor legacy

Nwakaeme remains one of the most revered foreign attackers in Trabzonspor’s recent history, having enjoyed two spells with the club.

The Nigerian forward became a fan favourite through his consistency, attacking versatility and ability to both score and create goals during his time in Turkey.

He played a key role in Trabzonspor’s attacking success and established himself as one of the club’s most influential players, earning a strong connection with supporters.

Nwakaeme made 193 appearances for Trabzonspor, scoring 50 goals and providing 48 assists.

His contribution helped cement his status as a cult hero at the club, making Salah’s latest achievement particularly significant given the Nigerian’s impact during his time in Trabzon.
