Mohamed Salah delivers emotional message after Liverpool defeat to Aston Villa
Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has delivered an emotional message to Liverpool FC supporters after the club’s 4-2 defeat against Aston Villa FC, admitting the team has fallen below expectations during a difficult Premier League campaign.
In a lengthy statement published on his X account on Saturday, Salah openly addressed Liverpool’s struggles and acknowledged the frustration felt by supporters after another disappointing result.
The Egyptian international reflected on the club’s rise in recent years and stressed the importance of rediscovering the identity that previously turned Liverpool into one of Europe’s most feared teams.
“I’ve seen this club go from being the target of skeptics to believers, and then from believers to champions.
It took an enormous amount of work, and I always did everything I could to help the club reach this level. Nothing makes me prouder than that.
Seeing us sink into another defeat this season was very painful, and it’s not what our supporters deserve. I want to see Liverpool become that heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear, and become a team that wins trophies again.
That’s the football I know how to play, and that’s the identity we need to rediscover and hold onto for good.”
“This should not be negotiable, and everyone who joins this club must adapt to it. Winning a few matches here and there is not what Liverpool should represent. All teams win matches,” he acknowledged.
Salah’s comments came after Liverpool suffered another damaging setback in a season marked by inconsistency and growing pressure around the club’s ambitions.
Despite the disappointment, the forward insisted the squad would continue fighting to secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The battle for a top-five finish has now become Liverpool’s primary target as they attempt to salvage their campaign in the closing weeks of the season.
“Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and my family. I want to see it succeed long after I leave.
As I’ve always said, qualifying for the next Champions League is the absolute minimum, and I will do everything I can to make that happen,” he added.
The statement represents one of Salah’s strongest public reactions during his time at Liverpool and arrives at a tense moment for the club following a run of disappointing performances.
With pressure increasing and Liverpool facing competition from Bournemouth for fifth place, the Egyptian star’s message has added further focus on the team’s final matches of the season and the urgent need to regain stability before the campaign ends.
