Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah headlines the six-man shortlist for the 2024/25 Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year award, announced on Friday.
The Egyptian star, who turned 33 earlier this month, enjoyed a sensational season, leading Liverpool to the Premier League title with 29 goals and 18 assists in all competitions.
His outstanding campaign had already earned him the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year award, claiming nearly 90 per cent of the votes—the largest winning margin recorded this century.
Salah is joined on the PFA shortlist by his Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Chelsea playmaker Cole Palmer, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.
Palmer’s inclusion raised some eyebrows, given Chelsea’s turbulent season, but the young midfielder nonetheless clinched the 2023/24 PFA Young Player of the Year prize.
Declan Rice, meanwhile, delivered his most productive season to date, notching nine goals and ten assists in 52 appearances to help Arsenal challenge for major honours.
Isak scored 23 times across all competitions for Newcastle, guiding the Magpies to Champions League qualification and helping end a 56-year trophy drought with their League Cup triumph.
Bruno Fernandes remains a rare bright spot for Manchester United following a dismal campaign, contributing eight goals and 10 assists in the Premier League.
The winners will be announced during the PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester on August 19.
